Unlocking iPhone 3GS on 5.0.1 - Week 35 and Beyond

First of all, I tried this myself, so I am 10000% sure that it works. Here is what I did:

1- Get your iPhone 3GS downgraded to iOS 4.1.
2- Then using an older version of redsn0w (0.9.6b5 for example), jailbreak the phone and install iPad Baseband.
3- Install ultrasn0w and make sure the phone is unlocked.

Note that if your push notifications do not work that you need to install SAM (search in my blog on how to do it). Wait till you installed iOS 5.0.1 because you will otherwise have to redo it.

Now, get redsn0w 0.9.10b3. Do the usual to get a custom IPSW file from your iPhone 3GS 5.0.1 OS file and the iPad baseband 06.15.00. Then choose Jailbreak and IGNORE that iPhone serial number week 35 thing. IGNORE it. Now redsn0w will install iOS 5.0.1 and re-flash your iPhone 3GS with 06.15.00. Once up and running, install Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 and put the SIM card. All should be fine.

No need to Deactivate anything.

Note: if you had the case where the WiFi and/or cellular radio start behaving unstable, then you did not install 06.15.00 fresh. You must have chosen the update and preserve baseband option from redsn0w. Do not do that. Instead, you should use the procedure above to get 06.15.00 re-flashed on to your 3GS.
